Don’t let the numbering on the pages here fool you – that little swiggle on Page 3 that looks EXTRAORDINARILY like a “5″…well…it ain’t. It’s a “3″. Or, well, that’s the joy of hand drawn lettering and numbering. If you accidentally pen in a “5″ on Page 3, then you’re just going to have to live with two Page 5’s, even though one of them should probably act as a Page 3. So that’s the above – Page 3 and 4, we didn’t muck it up, not this early in the game.
I’d also like to take this moment to point out 3R’s awesome lettering style – look at all that dialogue! And so bloody beautiful, placed so that the pages look good. I swear, all this crap about lettering not cluttering up the art and that’s why comics have to be so sparse…modern artists and letterers could take a cue from Ron here. Not that modern artists and letterers aren’t very good at what they do, mind you (I’m trying to letter a comic myself these days – it’s HARD), but I wish they’d relent on the whole “That’s too much dialogue! I can’t make that look good!” shtick. Scripters, artists, letterers, editors, they all believe this. Well, YOU believe THIS: Armageddonquest is gonna prove that it can be done! The above pages are nothing compared to future ones!
This comic epic was originally a novel, then a comic. Trust me, this will be very obvious as it goes, and the text continues to artfully clutter up the everything. –Dave Baxter
