The first “splash page” of Ron’s here – and a sweet hint of all the story to come.  The non-splash page contains the first instance in which Ron uses “Sob” and “Boo Hoo” as literal dialogue, which was always, oddly (or perhaps not) one of my favorite things of his writing.  ARMAGEDDONQUEST, being as ancien…uh…classic as it is, was for me the presursor to books like FAR ARDEN and SCOTT PILGRIM where manga-esque literal SFX are used, and charactes get to say “Spazz! Spazz!” and “Whine!” and “Shit Eating Face!” and things like that.  ARMA came before all of that, one of the very first non-manga comics to handle such a blend of styles.
